10 April Paddy Linehan R.I.P. All the Officers, Crew and Members of Youghal Lifeboat Station wish to extend their sympathies to the family of Paddy Linehan, who died recently. Paddy was the proprietor of the Moby Dick public house and a past Chairman of Youghal Lifeboat Branch. "May he rest in peace" ___________ APPEAL January 2004 My name is Robert Hamill and I am a member of Youghal Lifeboat Crew, I am the tall handsome blonde fella at the end in the picture (HA HA). I am currently fundraising for Youghal Lifeboat by running the London Marathon on the 18th April next. I am trying to raise €2,333 euro and this is only the cost of three crew suits for our station. Members of the Shantymen Choir from Sheringham Lifeboat Station in Norfolk who visited in October 2003 while on a tour of six Irish Lifeboat Stations. Dec 25th 2002, Christmas Day, Press Release Ardmore Lifeboat swim a huge success Hundreds of local people gathered together in Ardmore on Christmas Day to support the annual Christmas Day swim in aid of the Youghal and Helvic Lifeboats. The large crowd cheered the swimmers and they also contributed generously to a bucket collection. Many locals, of all ages, braved the freezing cold waters and their suffering helps to raise approximately 5000 Euro's annually for the RNLI. 3D models. The 2002 swim marks the seventh anniversary of the running of this very popular event, and to date, the total funds raised in that time, amount to approximately 30,000 Euro's for the Youghal and Helvic Lifeboats. A very well known local Lady in the form of Mrs Catherine Fitzgerald-Hourigan, first came up with the idea to organise and stage a Christmas Day swim to help raise funds for the RNLI back in 1996. Catherine had lost a brother, Edmund Fitzgerald in a fishing tragedy in December 1995, the previous year. Edmunds friend and local, Mr Paul Dunne was also lost in the same tragedy when their boat capsized in rough seas in Ardmore Bay. The Youghal Lifeboat and the Cliff & Coastal Rescue Service ( now the Irish Coastguard ) had helped to recover the bodies of the two men on that sad occassion.
Today, Catherine, together with an organising committee and helped by the Ardmore community at large, recognise the importance of the marine rescue services in the area and they lend their support and raise funds throughout the year and especially on Christmas Day. Both Youghal and Helvic Head lifeboats cover the Ardmore area using Atlantic 75 class lifeboats and are supported in no small way by the Irish Coastguard along with search and rescue helicopters based at Waterford and Shannon . The past seven years has seen the Ardmore Christmas Day swim go from strength to strength, and aside from the money collected for the lifeboat, the swim plays another important role in bringing the community together on Christmas Day when for many it can be a sad and lonely time. Keep up the good work.

Thursday September 26th 2002 What the papers say From the "Imokilly People" Click on thumbnails to enlarge Saturday 21st September 2002 The official opening of the new Lifeboat house and the naming and dedication of the new Atlantic 75 class Lifeboat " Patricia Jennings" took place before a very large crowd of wellwishers and invited guests. The lifeboat house was opened by Mr Terence C. Johnson, a member of the Trustee Committee of the RNLI and then handed into the care of Youghal Lifeboat Station. Mr Robert Brown, A friend of the late Patricia Jennings named the lifeboat in her name and also handed it into the care of Youghal Lifeboat Station. The dedication and blessings were conducted by Dean St John Thornhill, Rev Laurance Graham and Mr David O'Connor. At the conclusion of ceremonies the new Lifeboat was launched and gave a display of its capabilities.
